Wednesday 7th December
It was still raining hard when I awoke at around 8am, and I’d pretty much decided to spend the day in Bunbury , however by 10am the rain had stopped so I decided to move on. The Bussell highway out of town was busy but had a good wide shoulder; after about 30kms I turned off onto a very scenic road through the Tuart forest:

There was virtually no other traffic on this road. Eventually it led out to the Geographe Bay coast where I saw this somewhat unnecessary road sign:

Onwards towards Busselton the route passed the Vasse Estuary wetlands, home to many species of sea birds:

The main attraction in Busselton is the 150 year old jetty which is the largest in the southern hemisphere, stretching for nearly 2kms:

And it has a quite decent beach:

And also a drive in cinema:

From Busselton the route ran close to the coast but didn’t afford any views of the ocean until I reached Dunsborough, the end of today’s ride. This is a modern town built for tourism, with plenty of nice restaurants and bars but nothing much else.

The beach was deserted, even though by late afternoon the clouds had almost gone and it was quite warm:

Today’s distance was 92kms.
