Mareeba to Herberton
Friday 27th September 2013
Another day of solid hill climbing, from an altitude of about 400m to 900m. The weather remained hot and sunny all day. After about 40km I reached Atherton, an attractive small town where I stopped for lunch:
The final climb of the day was very steep:
On reaching Herberton I took a walk around the former tin mining area which was the town's main industry for many years. This is the entrance to one of the shafts, the shed in the background contained all the pumping machinery:
Herberton Main St
View over the town from nearby lookout
Distance today 56kms – again very hilly. Trip total 135kms
