Sunday 11th December
It was another beautiful sunny day. Like yesterday’s ride, there were few notable attractions on the route along the quiet Vasse Highway, but nevertheless the journey through jarrah and tall karri forest was scenic enough.
At about 40km I visited the Donnelly River Winery and tasted a few reds, it wasn’t too early in the morning by the time I arrived there:
The terrain was quite hilly most of the way:
At about 70km there was another winery, Silkwood Wines, in a beautiful lakeside setting. Far too nice to pass by without stopping a while:
At about 3pm I reached Pemberton, a town centred around the timber industry:
After a very nice lunch there I rode over to the town’s best known attraction, the Gloucester tree, a giant karri with climbable steps attached to it enabling anyone to reach the top, 61 metres above the ground:
It was then another hilly 30kms to Northcliffe, a very small town with little in the way of attractions, but conveniently situated for an overnight stop. I stayed in the Northcliffe Hotel and had a very good dinner (snapper fillet) then got an early night’s sleep.
It had been a long, hard day - distance covered 123km, across hilly terrain.
